We
were suffering from a reduction in butterfat for over a year,
states David Meissner, a partner in Norm-E-Lane Holsteins in Chili,
Wis. We had our haylage tested and found high levels of chloride.
At about the same time, our sales rep introduced us to the concept
of DCAD balancing. So we pulled back the salt and added potassium
carbonate and our fat test jumped from 2.8 percent to 3.8 percent
in 3 weeks. It was remarkable.
